Yaesu FT-65 handheld
Now at $85 USD it is the same as the smaller, but less featured, FT-4X. You should consider this for your first HAM HT. The display is amazing which gives it some cool undocumented features.

Here is a user manual I made. It is written for the first time user to get started quickly. It also shows how to use the undocumented dual display feature.

Yaesu FT-60 handheld
An oldie but goodie. My first HT.
At the time it was the most affordable HAM handheld. It is still sold because it has good scanner features.

Wouxun KG-805 handhelds

2) Adding more channels to the memory 31 +

BTECH GMRS-V1 handheld
My first full power GMRS handheld. The current models are 2 watt output instead of 5 watts.

This may be the most powerful "bubble pack" GMRS radio available.

I have a video users guide on my YouTube channel.

Here is a guide I made to show how to access all the control panel and most microphone functions.
